Father Daughter Dance

Tonight was the Father Daughter Dance sponsored by the Girl Scouts. This is the first year that Jessica and Marc attended. It is totally not Marc's thing but Jessica saw the flyer and asked Marc to go with her to the dance, so of course he agreed. Here they are as Marc gave her the corsage.

Adorable.

So when they rolled back home around 9:30 they were giggling and smiling and ready to talk about their night. They told me about what they ate. They told me about the dancing.

I made sure that Marc brought some money to buy Jessica a Shirley Temple and in case they had a raffle again. So then they told me about the raffle. For $5 they got 10 tickets. Marc assumed there would be multiple drawings, but instead they had one drawing for $200. Isn't that ridiculous? They could have made 10 kids happy for $20 each or heck bought tons of Webkinz and given those out. Instead they hand a wad of cash to one child and leave lots of unhappy girls. So Marc and I were tsk tsking this situation when Jessica reached into her pocket and pulled out a WAD OF CASH. She won the $200! Unbelievable!

Marc talked her into giving her brother $20. We haven't yet discussed savings. I still can't believe that whoever was running this thing thinks it makes sense to hand over $200 to a 7 year old. But I know one 7 year old that thinks it was pretty cool. It seems Jessica became quite popular after the drawing and everyone was asking to see the winnings. All I know is that when Jessica turns 21 I am so taking her to the casinos- who's with me?

So cute - I love the daddy/daughter dance stuff. Jess must have been in heaven. And holy crap - she WON?! Too funny. And, um, please call me when you take her to the casinos. I want in on that trip. :)

Holy COW! Like you- I don't understand why $200 cash would be a prize for that age group, but AWESOME that Jessica won it. Have you explained to her that if she put it in a mutual fund, how much more it will be worth when she's in college? Exciting stuff...or alternatively, she could buy roughly 15 webkinz.

I am SO with you on the "give everyone $20" deal. It seems a pretty silly thing to do.

Still, what a great night. They both looked great! What a wonderful father-daughter occasion!

The picture of Marc and Jessica is so adorable. Are you trying to make me tear up at my laptop or something?!

So sweet. I love that they do that father/daughter dance in your GS up there. I cannot believe the luck. She and Neil would totally rock any raffle ever. sadly that luck has not seemed to tranfer to Neil's casino gambling, but heck I'm in!!

Wow...I have too many comments- First - How cute are they?? Second - Good call on the flower (uh..thanks Dee!) Third- Holy crap!!! On all accounts...who the heck would do a $200 raffle at a girl scout event ( I am sure that is "illegal" with the G.S. police) and Jess...Geez! She kills me - EVERY SINGLE TIME - damn that girl is lucky! Camp money??

Yup, I'm on board for that casino trip too! Is she still saving for her American Girl? And ditto to what y'all said about the raffle. But still awesome that she won.

She looked super cute in Em's dress! What is on Marc's tie? Star Wars?
