Some Kitchen Before and Afters

By popular demand I bring you before and afters of our kitchen. Basically it took me this long to clean the room. So say goodbye to the 80s/90s country stenciling look....

And say hello to some more Shaker Beige and White trim....

goodbye to the shelf, heart switchplate, and mail spilling all over the table...
I am sure anyone who has ever entered my house has never seen it look like this...

It is so much nicer and brighter without the dark turquoise trim. Marc admitted this weekend that as we look at houses he checks out the trim color and if it is already white he moves the house up a little on his list. Painting over all of our dark trim took 3 coats, and it wasn't just in this room, very annoying.

So much lighter and brighter. It's really amazing what a little paint can do. Also, good to remember as you look at houses, that if the paint is awful, you can always fix it yourself!..but I totally get not wanting to do that. Art and I are all done painting rooms ourselves after 5 moves together.

Holy Cow. So much better. A friend of mine here in Kansas is getting ready to move, so is doing some similar things in her house. She wishes they'd done these things sooner so that THEY could have enjoyed the benefits longer term.

amen sister! I am loving the Family Room and the kitchen so much better with these colors. need to remember that on the next move. but luckily nothing is so much better that we don't want to move. can't just paint in another bedroom.

Sure would be nice to be able to "paint in" another bedroom...on the other hand, though, we've been in our new house for over 1 1/2 years and I have yet to pick up a paintbrush.

the whole house looks fantastic. way to go, dab and marc.

with regard to kristin's comment about enjoying the benefits of home improvements, I can totally relate to that! I wish we had renovated both our bathrooms earlier. However, it wouldn't have been possible with the kids being as young as they were back then (esp. since J was doing the vast majority of the work on his own). It would have made all of us totally, totally insane! =)
